stephanie is: uneasy uneasy…

well we took stimpy cat to the vet. i wrapped him in a blankie and carried him there. the vet tech took notes on his symptoms, took his ear temp (over 103 – not good), and his weight (14.4 lbs – he is a big boy). he went to get the dr (we hadn’t seen her before). she asked a couple questions then felt his bladder which was very hard and large. that means it is a blockage like i guessed from a website i found this morning. it is bad enough they took him right then while we signed consent and already started gasing him for an emergancy cathiter-unblocking-thing. poor baby. they will call with news and an estimate of how much this will hurt $$$-wise.

dan just talked to the vet… they got him unblocked and a catheter sewn in. he is looking rough but they say he is pulling through for now. they have to hold him over night because it has a high chance of returning. we are waiting on results of kidney and blood tests. as of tomorrow morning the bill will be $300. if the blockage returns we are left with operations as our only choices. we can’t afford them so i am afraid we would have to put him to sleep. it is hard to stomach the fact that a loved one can be so sick but have to die cause you can’t afford to try anything else. but we aren’t to that point yet. perhaps he will be fine and will be released tomorrow… 🙁

  4. You should look into getting animal insurance… I’m not exactly sure how that works.. but I know my parents have our cats insured =) Hope it works out for Stimpy

  6. I’m sorry about your kitty, I hope he pulls thru.

    And yes, it is heartbreaking to know that your cat has to go down because you can’t afford the vet bill. I’ve lost several this way, and it makes me feel like the worst sort of person. =(

      i am am sure he appreciated the cuddles you gave him the other day. i had been trying to cuddle him more at bring him up to the cat tree to be near us, but today he felt so bad that he kept going down to the first floor and lying in the corner… it is a good thing danny had made the appointment for him.

  10. Awww Stimpy kitty. I have an izone picture of him stuck on my monitor, from when you sent it in a valentine or something. I will look at it and think of him. Poor baby. Cat mantis says “mmmmrowr” to him.

    • stimpy has always been the most patient model of all my animals. he always looks at the camera unlike the other cats who turn away just as i *click*…

    we’ve been thru this with so many animals..trying to decide if they are suffering too much or what is affordable..i hate it 🙁 makes my tummy turn…last time we had to deal with that was with that sick agama lizard i brought home..

  15. ummm, if a decision has to be made, and its primarily financial and not medical. maybe a webathon would be solution, I bet a lot of peeps would kick in like 5 dollars. Its bad enough when one has to make that decision when there isn’t a medical option. please post here if there is anything we can help with.
