stephanie is: unhappy unhappy…

a couple years ago my dad got us an electric blanket for christmas. i bet it cost a lot cause it was a queen size one that heats up where it touches you and each side has its own controls. we use it every cool night. i guess last night was the last night, cause look, there’s part of it now:

i wonder if they just sell the cords for it…

  1. Nah….

No need for a new cord… got to a home improvement place and ask around till you find cord splicers… all you do it cut the ends even and then crimp this little thing on with a pair of pliers. TADAAAAA! Your cord is good as new…. with a slight lump on it 🙂

  2. the cam pic might be playin’ havok with what i say, but it is all copper wire in there? if so, then yeah you can do what gae said and get it fixed easily..

  3. Ouch..

Do they chew cords often? Here are a few things we have found that help, but they all need some upkeep.
You can spray the cord with Bitter Apple or rub with a bar of laundry soap, but both will rub off over time, just re-apply regularly. Wrapping the cord with electrical tape sticky side out does a great job, but gets dirty and looses stick pretty quick. Wrapping in tin foil works really great, but looks crappy. (not that electrical tape doesn’t) What I have found works best for me is to wrap the cord with electrical tape sticky side out, then cover that with wire loom (the flexable tube cut in a spiral usually used to hold multiple wires together). The wire loom keeps the tape clean and sticky, and gives extra thickness to chew through, plus it comes in all kinds of colors. I’ve met pets that actually like bitter apple, but never one that would chew on electrical tape. Oh, and for lengths of a few feet along walls and under beds, thin PVC pipe is pretty invulnerable.
Best bet is to always unplug a cord you think they would chew when you can. Even a mild shock from houshold current can put a pup in bad shape.

actually none of the animals (besides the bunnies) are cord chewers so this came out of the blue. that cord has always been there, but just recently both dogs have taken to napping under the bed… hm.

Yeah bunnies seem to think cords are twigs to chew on, and with their sharp little teeth they can go right through on the first bite.
Could be someone just noticed the cord for the first time and found it fun to chew. Might want to start with the bitter apple, just in case they start to notice there are others just like it in the house.
