stephanie is: awake awake…

i can’t sleep. how can i with the bed wet with pee for the second time today??? i was in bed and danny started to get in when he found the head of his side soaked with pee from earlier that day. we had forgotten to lock the bedroom door and dia can open doors and loves to nap in that spot…. so we strip the bed, danny rotates the foam pad, we put clean sheets on and a spare comforter. as soon as i get in bed the sheets start soaking though at my feet where the pee hit the foam pad. so we pull everything back, blot it up, and i lay croaked – grossed out and hoping it will dry. we watched a lame movie and danny dozed. dia was bettween us just laying and sleeping. well, i think she peed in her sleep cause there is now a huge brand new pee spot right where she was laying. she’s smart, she got up and went to the floor after that. i couldn’t take being inches away from pee… can’t sleep. even though i only got 3 hours of sleep last night. i put on a hoodie, put the first pee sheets of the night into the dryer, our very worn and coming apart comforter into the washer, and came done here. next load will be my blankie which has been caught in the cross fire a couple times and smells bad.

i don’t know what to do. i guess tomorrow we go and buy a new foam pad. i hope they don’t cost heaps – i don’t remember. cause i am sure our comforter is going to completely give out one of these days. then i guess puppy is on probation and will not be allowed be on the bed till she has proven herself. and i’ll keep a close eye on her peed habits to look for indication of a bladder infection. and i’ll control her water intake after dark. *sigh*

hmm… i’ve been reading that 20% of bitches become incontinent after spaying. and that it first manifests itself and peeing while sleeping. dia was just spayed in early december, and we’ve had peepee trouble that have gotten worse since then…

  1. You may have to crate her during times that you can’t keep an eye on her very well (ie; working, bathing, sleeping, etc.) I can gaurntee that she’s not going to like it very much, but sometimes it’s what has to be done. My mother in law had a puppy for a while that wasn’t housebroken yet, and when we all went to work (I lived with her n the summer before we got married due to family problems on my side.) we crated her. She was also crated at night and when there were lots of people around. Due to other circumstances, she wasn’t able to keep Cindy, but I’d imagine it all eventually worked itself out.

You also may want to check with your vet, sometimes spraying (especially in sleep) can be a sign of a bladder or kidney infection. Hell, sometimes it could be diet. They would know better than I. I’m just thinking back to what was said on the radio call in show hosted by a local vet.

    Good luck!

  2. Hmm, strange…

…well I remember at the behaviours of our dogs. Our first one was male, he goes always at the same corner of the garden to pee and poop. The second one was a female, well… as we had her the “running-around-barefoot-in-the-garden”-times were over, ’cause she peed and pooped right were she stand, yuck. Sometimes we found a accident on the livingroomfloor (thankfully not on the carpet).
In the past dogtrainers grabbed the dog by the neck and pushed ’em with the nose into the poop. Well that’s something you shouldn’t do, ’cause it can destroy the smelling sensors in the nose of the dog.
Normally if you find it out, or catched her right at the act, you should get really loud (yelling) and angry to show her that she done something wrong. As soon she crawls at her belly around (important, don’t hit her, and if it’s neccessary, never with the hand), you can stop, but ignore her for the next hours.
So she learn that she done something wrong. You have to show her that you are the “alpha of the pack”, then she will comply. Well, it worked at our two dogs perfectly.
Anyway, I would lock the bedroom, and don’t allow her, to sleep in the bed, till she’s clean again.
But it could be caused by medical reasons, too.

we’ve been though housebreaking training with her. she knows she isn’t allowed to pee on the floor. she is getting must better, and she has a lot more freedom. but she keeps peeing in her sleep, and leaking pee a bit when over excited.

the pee we found from earlier today was in the exact spot shee curls up to sleep in when danny is not in bed. i think she napped and peed in her sleep, then after we changed everything ans went back to sleep, she peed in her sleep again. i think it is time to call the vet. (well, not for a couple more hours of course, hehe)

…that’s right, that sounds like a medical problem, BTW our femal dog were never spayed, and she had never peeing problems during sleep.
Hmm,.. are diapers for dogs available?

  3. wow, talk about deja vu

for years our female dog Gypsy had this ~exact~ same problem. It was maddening. Go the bed, she’d be curled up at our feet, wake up at three a.m. to a big wet spot – eeeew. (70 lb dogs can pee A LOT!) Knew she was doing it in her sleep cause her side and fur would also be soaked.

I hope you have better luck at the vet, we spent SO much money trying to determine the cause. She also suffered from chronic bladder infections (about every 9 months I notice she is acting differene – peeing on the concrete instead of the grass – take in a sample and bingo, sure enough, bladder infection. I’m an old pro now at detecting them) but despite numerous tests and second opinions, they never found a cause. Eventually she just stopped on her own ( I don’t know if diet helped, or she just grew out of it or what, I’m just happy we don’t have to make so many trips to the vet) but not before ruining many a comforter, our mattress, a couch, our carpet, and at least three dog beds.

Fingers crossed for you, I know what you are going through.

  4. We used to have a kitty named Delilah that liked to pee on our bed. (We ended up giving her back to the person who gave her to us) Before you buy a new foam pad, take yours outside and fold it over the fence and spray it with the garden hose. Then let it air dry. When we bought our foam pad for our bed it was $39.99, so this saved us the money and after it air dryed you could never tell a naminal peed on it.

  5. i’ve heard of girly dogs doing things like that after being spayed, but so far – we haven’t had anything like that.
although, i have had them pee in the bed many times. whats worse, is when they get sick in the bed. *shivers*

  6. Controling her water intake is really good. The vet used to us that all the time.

The first thing I thought of was a bladder infection. But, then again I have only heard of dogs ‘leaking’ pee not fully going pee. ?? Good luck!
