stephanie is: sleepy sleepy…

today i had an afternoon meeting with a new company i hope to start doing contract work with. their office is in georgetown. i didn’t want to try to drive in, eep! danny and i decided to make a friday afternoon of it. he helped me find the right street from the metro. he was going to go wandering till i called and said i was done, but i asked him to come in with me – at least till i got into the office – since it was just a door to some stairs between to shops on a busy street. i called their office and the lady i had talked to on the phone came down to get me. she invited danny in too. with as hot as it had gotten today, he was happy to.

they had a neat office space in a super old building with lots of exposed brick walls and ikea furnature. the people were interesting and kind – definatly not your typical corperate marketing people. the meeting went smoothly and i think we all got along well. danny sat in with me. she later wrote that she found us to be “genuine and refreshing”. i hope that is true… i know we are both very honest people.

afterwards we headed out into the heat to explore. we walked through a little mall. danny said i could pick out one toy from f.a.o. schwartz, but i didn’t really see anything so we just went to the food court and got a drink. the whole mall smelled like baby poop except where the food smell covered it.

at the “newseum” in roslyn

then we walked across the bridge to roslyn to see the newseum (news museum) we had been meaning to visit for years. it was hot and carrying my portfolio sucked, but we love walking around. the museum was nice but we weren’t that into it. we’ve both been feeling kinda bored lately – even though we have plenty to do.

a monument to fallen journalists

i did enjoy taking pictures when we got outside the newseum. there was a beautiful modern sculpture/monument to journalists and photographers who have died on the job. it was made of shimmery panels and metal. the names were written on the panels.

photos taken near the newseum

i took some more photos of sky scrapers and exhibits (which are all posted in the members history section) before we headed around the corner to see a segment of the berlin wall that had been set up there. it was a bunch of painted panels from the wall that were really quite beautiful – but sad at the same time.

it was getting really hot so we walked to the nearest metro station and headed to where i had parked my car. i felt a little dehydrated but i got an iced tea from the gas station and drank it all.

the rest of our day has been quiet. danny wanted chinese food so he cooked us some stir fry. he is upstairs watching t.v. and i am falling asleep typing this. i must be getting old.

this weekend my dad is bringing my birthday present – his old computer! right now i am on an old pre-usb 266mhz beige G3 that i have souped up as much as possible. it is pretty slow. so i will be setting up a new machine on sunday in addition to working on the three paid projects i have for the beginning of the week.

  1. 🙂 I have been thinking about replacing my P266 as well, but I recently added 256 Megs of ram and added USB connectors to it. The motherboad had the stubs but not the actual connectors. I hate switching off computers. I still run the 486 computer that I brought with me from Scotland 4 years ago as my email and web and file server at home. I did convince it to take a 60 gig hard drive which has made it a little more useful. The P266 multiboots every OS I have been able to get my hands on.
