stephanie is: freshly showered freshly showered…

bleh. every summer my hair breaks off in chunks. it is happening real bad this year. i don’t want to go bald! ack. it is mostly from my dry hair breaking on my pillow case while i sleep. i keep my hair braided but it isn’t enough, i want to try a satin pillowcase but i haven’t found one yet. and i can’t find my favorite conditioner either. i’ve been trimming, braiding, not brushing when it is wet, leave-in conditioning, hot oiling, olive oiling…. but nothing helps. i do lighten my roots regularly. my normal hair fades from dark blonde to white blonde if left alone. like from root to tip. it looks very trailor trash on my and makes my hair look dirty. i love this light blonde color. i am being careful to only get the dye on my healthy roots, but perhaps i need a break from it anyway? i’d need to dye it medium blonde to avoid having gross roots and i dunno if i can do that. i was going to a couple months ago but i chickened out at only got a golden blonde which barely made it darker. would i look lame with medium blonde hair? maybe if i left some lighter chunks? bah. or i could try hair vitamins. don’t they make suppliments to strengthen your hair? i will go to cvs tomorrow and explore all my options, but any advice would be helpful. maybe i need a sleeping cap, hehe. i will look for my deep conditioner (the minty st ives one) and i will look a darker dye but i dunno about that. i am not as brave with my hair as i used to be. i think i am babbling. yes.

i worked all day. i felt productive. after i finished i got back to work on the member gallery. tons to do. we ordered pizza cause we have to get groceries soon and we were not up to that tonight.

i should go to bed since i am sure to be awoken by danny’s alarm at 6am. if you are up and bored around 7am est, you should come wake me up in chat. bring fresh orange juice please.

night night.

  1. hair is just dead cells. once it’s fried, there’s not a whole lot you can do besides cut it off. it’s not like your body, where something gets sick and you can heal it. it’s keratin, just like your fingernails: you break em? too bad. not much you can do. i’ve pretty much tried everything you have, like coating in it coconut oil and braiding it and leaving it for two days.

taking a break from the dye is probably the only thing you can do to get it healthy, and that’s only after you’ve let the virgin hair grow out and chopped off the dry stuff. if you do decide to go darker, you can get dyes or glosses that coat the hair shaft to give it a little more shine and slipperiness so maybe it isn’t so frail. i like to henna my hair every now and then because i know it has no bleach or any icky chemicals in it. i use “solanna” henna from lush. it does wonders to make my hair shiny, but any color it leaves (usually reddish) is permanent.

i guess there’s not a whole lot that i know of that you can do. i went platinum when i had really short hair, then dyed it back, grew it out, chopped it off, and haven’t looked back. i wish my hair was lighter sometimes, but i usually just bleach two streaks in the front and that does the trick.

    • henna is good but you do not want to put henna on processed hair really. You can get the clear but it just seals the cuticle on your hair. Bleaching blows out the cuticle of your hair shaft and that is why it becomes weak and breaks off. Henna and dye do not go together. It has to be one or the other

  2. hair!!!!!!!!!!!

first of all don’t use lennon juice on it!!!TALK to WENDY!!!!!!! she is a natuarl BLOOND!! thought you were to….are you taking your VITAMINS???

p.s. you better take of my baby while she is in D.C.

    love the mommy!!!!!!!!!!!

  3. The best products in the world for repairing your hair. I used to bleach my hair and it used to break off too. I started to use these and it was a miracle!!

Goldwell kerasilk conditioner, it is expensive but it doesn’t take much to condition your hair

Sebastian potion 9 is great and even more concentrated is the potion 7. (it is a leave in conditioner that does not leave your hair waxy or greasy, I have baby fine hair too)

I swear if you start to use those you will notice such a difference in your hair. I was able to bleach my hair and it quit breaking and did it for many years. Also each time you bleach it put vinegar on it and let it sit for about 10 minutes. It will nuetralize the chemicals in the dye and make them stop processing even after you wash it out.

    • I forgot to say use both of them too.

Also another product but is VERY spendy is the phytology line from france. It is like pure gold in price and the other 2 are a cheaper alternative. They really do work!

  4. have you tried egg whites??
i hear that’s a really good way to help your hair… also rinsing your hair in cold water before leaving the shower…

  5. another thing I forgot to mention is, you can get a reverse foil done on your hair while you grow it out. They will only dye segments and weave it so when they do dye it then it looks natural when it grows out and there is no roots. That might be a solution instead of dying the whole thing and letting it grow out. Or, if you are broke you can get a cap and get your natural color and pull it through a cap and dye those parts your nautral color and then you will have less roots when it is growing out. The only problem is, if your hair is already breaking off and then you put more chemicals on it then it means that the chances of it just melting off your head when you dye it is very high. It sounds like the protein molecules and tinsle strenght has been destroyed beyond what you would want to attempt at home.

I found the site you can get the goldwell at here
    http://webbeautystore.com/goldwell.html

Kerasilk Care & Smoothness Intensive Treatment
Intensive conditioning treatment conditions, strengthens and protects very dry, damaged hair and scalp. Hydrolyzed silk proteins strengthen hair while providing smoothness and silky gloss.

    8 oz.–$8.45
    16 oz.–$23.45

    • my aunt’s hair once disintegrated while she sat in her stylist’s chair at the salon…she perms and dyes her hair, and has for many years.. finally her hair just melted away…. fortunatley a few inches were still left…

      scary!

  6. When I dyed my hair from light blond to dark brown I fried the crap out of it when it was healthy before. I think going from light to dark is really hard on ones hair so you might want to ask a hairdresser about it first. It took a year before my hair felt semi normal again. Mine has been getting dryer this summer too, phooE.

  7. Chemical bathing

Gee, what’s wrong with just accepting who you are and how you look? Throw out the pharmacy of crap you bathe your hair in and just accept what you have. I just don’t understand this American obsession of destroying what you were born with and trying to look and be something else. Not only will you have healthy hair, if you really get into it you might find many other personal benefits.

  8. I only dye my hair during the fall and winter, it’s too much of a hassle during the summer when it’s always in a bun or braided anyway. I have naturally light to medium brown hair with tons of red highlights. During the fall and winter I have it colored red (more of a dark rich red kinda like Kate Winslet’s color in Titanic, not a carrot top red).

My stylist uses a protein dye (I think that’s what it is anyway) instead of a chemical one. There are no roots, it gradually washes out over a 6-8 week period, and it’s VERY good for your hair. She said that some people just come in and get the clear one done to make their hair healthier. The drier your hair is, the better the color actually sticks. My hair looks kinda funny right now when it’s down because it’s all faded out from the last time I had it done in February, except the ends of my hair which are drier, are still holding the color. So my hair is fading from light brown to red.

I know that you color your hair yourself, but perhaps there is some kind of similar protein dye that you could buy to use at home. Maybe if you go talk to a stylist at a salon they could tell you where to get some.

  9. you really should give your hair a long break from dye… esp if your hair is delicate already …My hair is REALLY thick/wavy and pretty “tough”, but I notice that it gets fragile and brittle and yucky when I dye it, even just semi-permanent dyes just fry it…I don’t much like my natural hair color.. but I cant dye it much or the same thing that happens to u will happen.

ugh. do crayons work on hair? try it and lemme know! πŸ™‚

  10. Hi –

I was looking at a site just now for some hair stuff I wanted, and I ran across these satin pillowcases and I remembered your asking about satin pillowcases in your journal so I thought I’d let you know about these in case they might be what you could use.

  11. hi, i just have been reading your journal for a little while now, but this is something i can really comment on… but hi!

ok, i have dyed my hair 20 THOUSAND times!!! lol, and now i can really see the damage. So today i went to the salon and they cut it much shorter, which it already looks healthier and i have to let it grow out now… but they said try Sebastion potion 9 and 7 (which i see someone already suggested) but also potion 5, which is the shampoo. I’m gonna try it and see if it helps but they said to try to stay with oil based stuff because that will moisturize it.

anyway, there’s my first comment, lol, and hope you find an answer to your hair dilema, lol
