stephanie is: okay okay…

hi… i went to bun’s vet appointment at 4:20pm. i walked in to the lobby and there were three kids, 2 big dogs, about 6 adults, and a few receptionists. they all started ooing and ahhing over bunny since people mostly see cats and dogs. the doggies all had to come sniff her but she didn’t mind since she is used to china. she was just scared about being in a strange place. i had her in a mini hutch instead of a cat carrier because the top unlatched easily instead of unscrewing in a million places. she had a fluffy towel to lay on and one of her blankies to cuddle.

after i filled out a form for her we went back to an exam room. a tech took some notes and did a quick check of her. she weighed in at 6 lbs 2 oz. i took this pic of bunny waiting for the doctor to arrive…

the exotics vet was a lady which i wasn’t expecting – dunno why… i went over things with her some more and she took lots of notes. she checked bun all over, letting her stay on her comfy towel since she doesn’t like smooth surfaces. she laid still and i rubbed her ears while the vet took her temp (doh – in her tushie). temp was fine and so was everything else. bun is a chubby girl so it was hard to get a good feel of her tummy, but all signs pointed to hair balls – which had been my guess.

the vet prescribed that i feed her lots of fresh pienapple to help her break down the hairballs. it contains an enzyme that can do this. if she doesn’t like pineapple i can hunt the enzyme down in pet stores… she gave me the name of it. i’ll try to buy some pineapple tomorrow.

at one point in the exam the vet startled bun who went “grrumph! grruummph!” in her silly bitch-girl grunt that means “excuse you!”. the vet looked shocked and said, “i’ve never heard a bunny make noise before!”. later on she said, “i want to ear her grunt again…”. hehe no.. that is her unhappy grunt which is not good to hear when you have her nails inches from your face.

i requested help in cleaning the mess off her tush and clipping her nails – both jobs requiring 2 to 3 people. they did the cleaning first…. it was too bad to just wash off so a tech came in and held her while i rubbed her ears and the vet tried to shave away the yuckies best she could with some clippers. after a rinse bun was a lot cleaner. there are still some stuborn bits though. nail clipping took the same group effort.

then she was done! she started acting more like her old self once her tush was clean. she was cuddling her blankie while i was waiting to pay. there was a puppy out waiting that was named bunny too so everyone was all confusilated. the bill was nothing – $43. since she is the thrid animal we have brought in there we now get 10% discounts. and the vet put into the computer that the tush cleaning was complimetary. OH! and they gave me a $6 “good pet discount” cause she was such a sweetie.

and that was bun’s trip. she is still eating light, but is a little more herself. i shall have to see how she feels after having some of that enzyme in her.

i feel fine now – i was only sick for the bit of time before the appointment. i get instantly sick from stress at times and haveing two ill animals in one week was too much for me. i shall head to bed soon so i get plenty of rest.

night night.

  1. YAY!

    good.

i am a little worried about your vet, though.. if she’s never heard a rabbit grunting, she has not met many rabbits.. you might want to check out this faq on finding a vet from the house rabbit society.

so happy to hear sweet bun is okay..

  2. Glad to hear that bun-bun is okay.

I’ve heard that if you put vaseline on the paws of a cat they will lick it, and in digesting it helps to break down hairballs for them.

I wonder if that would work for rabbits too…
