so, i admit i am really lame at english grammer. maybe someone else can tell me why my shirt says “girl’s rule” instead of “girls rule”? it is driving me nutz0r!

The reason is simple: whoever did the art for the shirt is lame at English grammAr.
Either that or (worse) they’re pandering to a common mistake, trying to “fit in”.
Misplaced apostrophes have become something of a pandemic — I’m not sure if it’s because the average understanding of grammar is deteriorating, or whether it’s simply that it’s stayed the same but the Net has enabled far more non-professional writers to put their writing where it’s on public view. The problem with apostrophes used to be a misunderstanding of the possessive form and its exceptions (its/it’s), but increasingly you see things like “girl’s rule” where the apostrophe is used with the plural form of the word — it’s as if the writer thinks that an apostrophe is an inherent part of the letter S.
Con’sider what Engli’sh writing would be like if that were really the ca’se.
