stephanie is: deciding... deciding…

can i just say i hate wedding dress places? yes? okay – i HATE wedding dress places. i just want to go find a nice white dress, somewhat close to my size, buy it, and then take it in to fit (or take it to a seamstress if it has boneing in it). but nooo. i go to the stores and the smallest they have is 4 (waay to big for my upper half) and i can’t even try anything on without them taking my life history down. like i’m supposed to know the date of my wedding – seesh! hehe. um, march-ish? maybe?

back in highschool, i got my junior prom dress for $5 at a consignment shop. it was a swanky early 90’s black sequined strapless number. i took it to a seamstress who had it ready for me in a couple weeks for like $10. why can’t wedding dresses be like that?

i have decided i am buying a white prom dress instead. i can find those in size 1 and 2 which means minimal alterations. that is good when you are having a j.o.p. come marry you in a couple months. i may have to order online since it is very difficult to find 1’s in stock, but i will only order from places that accept returns if you don’t like it. if it like it i will alter it and i’m all set (cept for shoes, doh!)

here are dresses i have found – all size 1 or 2. they are all in the $60-$250 price range. help me out people! (especially you danny). i am so not a buying frufru dresses kind of person so i need help. click the pics for close ups and please vote.

  3. my choices would be between number 2 and number 8! i am going through this with my best friend and it’s a pain in the arse!

    out of the flufy ones i like number 4. your final decsion will be when you try them on. it helps big time. a lot of them scratch under the arms..ick! 2 and 8 look comfy!

  8. If you are going more formal #2 or #6, but if you are having a super casual wedding then #3. The only problem I have with #3 is it has kind of the maternity look to it with the cut of the empire waist line and all that flouncing below it. It might look in your wedding pics that you are trying to cover up a pregnancy or something. It is cute but that would be something I would consider with it :))

        • I am saying the dress could flounce out like that, not that stephanie in a size 1 or her body would look pregnant. White is a weird color to photograph and if there is any fullness to it and the tendancy to not show detail in it when it is photographed that could happen. If it is even slightly over exposed it has a tendency to do that. I should know. I have shot many of wedding dresses in the past and if you are not super careful it can happen. Yes, even on super skinny high fashion anorexic models.

          • oh and the anorexic thing has nothing to do with stephanie either. I am talking about when I was in the fashion industry and working around anorexic’s. Just like when I was 118 lbs at 6 foot tall

    I like #3 but ditch the bow… too frilly…

    #4 and #7 are really nice also… especially if you want something more “traditional” but still cool…

  15. How formal is your wedding going to be? I love #4. One of my best friends is a little wisp of a thing like you and she had a dress similar to that and it was spectacular!!

    4 = poofy princess dress but not too plain not too fru fru
    8 = simple elegance….
    you may want to look up gunne sax… (i’m not sure thats how you spell it… but try it!) they have alot of really nice things… alot of modern victorian stuff…

  20. I went through this before.. decided a white or cream colored prom dress was the way to go too. Doing it all over again. I like #3…it kinda says JP wedding all over it. I don’t like #* because it has the ruffle thing on the top, but I believe Delia’s has a version of it without the ruffles. #8 is cute… but it seems like if you were having plms with the bust area with the regular floor model wedding dresses, then that one would be a little trouble too.

    I got frustrated with the whole dress thing, and in the end I had bought a vintage, hand-beaded 20s style dress. Let me tell you… vintage clothing stores are hard to get to take anything back. *sigh* I loved that dress.

  29. The one I like most is maybe #8, but I’m not sure because I cannot see the front.
    I think you should choose a very simple dress. It would make your beauty stand up.
    I think in too much frou frou you would even more young. A simple look would accentuate your elegance, I think.
    And it is something you won’t be ashamed of when your daughter will look at the photo album ;-))
    Oh! I prefere opaque fabric. The shiny ones would not go very well with your complexion, I think. And I live ivory more than white.
    What about the hair? Aren’t you excited? Aren’t you scared? Aren’t you happy and bouncy?

  30. I like no. 6 because of the empire waist and the chiffon surrounding and the opening of the chiffon cover over. I hope this helps. It is a very flattery look for anyone who has problems with the look of dresses on them!

    I really like 1 and 4. Not at all crazy about 3 (too informal) or 5 (too frou frou).
