stephanie is: poor but happy poor but happy!

so, we like, own a house!! yipe!! woot! hehe. it has been a busy month since i have written a formal diary entry. we have been through house walk-throughs and setting up insurance and sending paperwork back and forth. but we closed on the house today!

i set the alarm for 10:30am this morning (i have off work through friday) since i haven’t slept much this week. of course i was awake at 7:30am and just laid there with my brain going in circles till 10am. we’ve had a busy day and it is only half over. first we went to home depot where we dropped off an order for window blinds. they said it would be a half hour but we gave them a few hours while we settled. we drove to maryland from there to my bank where i got a big fat cashier’s check of what was left of the down payment. it took less that two minutes. credit unions are my friend. then we drove back to virginia to fair oaks, where the escrow place was. it was across the street from a mall so we grabbed some french fries there. they were oogy – way too greasy. i bought us each a daily pug dog desk calendar, then we headed over.

the appointment didn’t take long. the lady was really nice. she looked a bit like frenchie from grease but with a modern hair cut. we signed so many copies of things that my signature degraded into a squiggly line. we gave her the check, and she gave us our keys and paperwork. everything is paid for until january. we are now in debt 240K until the year 2030. doh!

buying the house!

we went back to home depot and they hadn’t done our blinds. we had to give them more specific info so that we wouldn’t have to wait 20 days while they special ordered them. they trimmed them to the right widths (we hope) while we shopped. danny got a set ladder and some home improvement books. i got a plank, nails, and half dowels to build a bunny ramp for the new hutch. zooom zooom bunnies zooooooom!

now i am home. danny taped up 4 boxes so that i can continue packing. he went off with our friend moosie and moosie’s truck to buy my hutch, a clean new ferret cage, and a small entertainment center for our bedroom (since the room is smaller than what we have now). okay pack! pack! pack!

  5. Wow… that’s so awesome and I am really excited for you 😀 I hope hope hope that I will have come so far when I am out of college. It seems so far away! Poor jhimm, being 27 and dating a 22 (as of yesterday) year old. I will always remember when you closed on your house since it’s the day after ma’ birfday!

    So exciting!

  6. Fantastic!!! Congrats!!! How exciting!!!

I want to move back to Maryland (I lived in Bethesda and my boyfriend was looking to buy in Virginia). I cant believe you got a house for that amount of money! My one bedroom apartment in the ghetto is more than your morgage! =( The San Francisco Bay Area sucks!

    • Yup. Our best friends just bought a house in the city (they wanted to buy in San Mateo but it was even more expensive/competitive there!) for around 600K. Their down payment was $150K, and their mortgage is still going to be over 4K per month….crazy stuff.

  7. Do you keep your bunnies in a hutch inside your house? And if so, what do you put beneath the hutch in case of um, bunny waste falling on the floor? I have 3 cute bunny bun buns.

    Just curious

  8. WHOOO HOOO!!!!

    🙂

  9. Congratulations :o)

I caught up with this via Krytens LJ. It is now 5 years since we took the plunge and bought our first place (it’s now up for sale …anyone want to buy a 3 bed terraced house nr Heathrow??)

To depress you slightly (aw well , *someone* has to) Over the past 5 years we have paid out 30k in mortgage , when I rang the mortgage co last week to find out how much we still owe from the original 67k we borrowed , the woman said …. wait for it ……..
    65k

    *Sigh*

28k in interest charges have been paid

    Ah well :o)

Have a great life the 2 of you
