i want to cut the tags off the beanie babies i got today. will i go to stuffed animal hell or anything if i do? they just aren’t very fun to snuggle with a big ugly plastic-covered tag that is the size of their face.

If you cut the tags off of beanie babies, what’s next? The hard stuff? Cutting labels off of pillows? It’s a slippery slope, but there are 12-step programs that can help.
Probably losing the tags make them less collectable, in case you were thinking of them as an investment and a possible way to pay off the new house in a couple of years. If you’d rather have them as cuddle toys, well, they’re yours to do with as you like. Call me a cynic, but they probably won’t be your retirement account.
Maybe you could cut them off but carefully label each tag and place it in an envelope for safekeeping, for reattachment later should the Ty Police suddenly show up.
Of course, the following site recommends not only leaving them on, but covering them with plastic so they don’t get worn …

It also says that beanies without tags lose 50% of their mint value … so just get twice as many beanies and toss the tags š

Now that it’s too late, what nobody has mentioned is that beanie babies sans tags are like gremlins fed after midnight … they still look innocent and cuddly, but watch out.
