It is interesting to notice how the questions I get from people evolve as my pregnancy progresses. When I first announced it, everyone asked about the baby’s sex. Now that I’m 6 months and we’ve known it’s a boy for some time, the question has changed again. Now it is ‘have you picked out a name yet?’ Or some variation. It’s hard to know what to say to that one. We aren’t stressing over names but we’ve mentioned names we like. I don’t think I would tell the public what we choose until it is official. I’ve actually had people tell me what *not* to name him – what if that was the name we loved? It just seems rude.
I sometimes get asked when I am due, but not often. I think that is because I still and so small to a stranger’s eyes. I feel huge, but I realize I don’t even look pregnant at times when out and about. I wonder if that will be the next big wave of questions as I start to get bigger.
On a different note, Baby wants pancakes!
It only gets weirder and weirder as time goes on. Just be thankful that you were thin going into this… once you DO look officially pregnant to the lay-person, you’ll be a subject of awe. When I was pregnant with Hannah, I just looked fat ’til about the month I delivered her. A lady at church literally had zero idea I was pregnant ’til the people that DID know organized a baby shower for me. LOL!!

Well,..
There is still the option, following the old tradition, to choose a name from the father/mother or grandfathers/grandmothers. So as examplem your own name would be easy to change into “Stephan”. ^_^
But you are right, the name choosing is your own business alone. The only suggestion I would give is to not to choose something too exotic. So my own name is a German one, but it is a more rare one. For awhile(as young teen) i even disliked my own name. The other kids at school had the tendency to call me “Nops” or “Nobby” and I hated that. 😀 So that I preferred it for awile, to get called by my second name “Georg”. 🙂
I would HOPE that you are promising ~real~ Maple syrup with those pancakes.
I mean… ” Babys’ FIRST pancakes” —got to be the full deal.
No I do not live in Vermont. Heh.
Best wishes to you all.
-me.-
They were pumpkin pancakes with cinnamon apples on top! But I’ve had pancakes a number of times this pregnancy…
I NEVER ask if a person is pregnant or when due … having been burned once when the women was not expectant
Nor do I! Unless the baby is currently falling out of her, I wait until she mentions it before saying anything. Even if it is super obvious.
We waited till ours were born always… Had a friend that went around from 6 months calling their kid by 1 name only to have the birth and she took one look at the baby and went “That’s not his name… it just doesn’t fit him” So they spent the next several months correcting people and being sheepish about it.
Don’t even get me started on if the sonogram tech blew the gender pronouncement. 🙂
We whittled the name list down to a couple each time and once were were looking at them choose the name. In my opinion it was the only way to go with the boys.
Wow, long time no comment. My how you have grown:) Congratulations to you and Danny!
Just wanted to say how great it was to come across this site and see you with your beautiful baby bump – I was on mothering ttc at the same time as you a while ago. Congratulations to you and your husband!
Before my first baby I weighed 114 pounds (and gained about 20 pounds through the entire pregnancy. It was good in some ways to be small, but in other ways really tough. I had one stranger ever ask if I was pregnant. I’m sure some others wondered (when I was 7, 8 and 9 months along) but were too timid to ask just to be safe.
I got a lot of flack for never getting very big, though. People would always tell me that I was going to have a 4-pound baby, and that I wasn’t eating enough. Even my OB’s resident made some rude comments in my 8th month about how it couldn’t be normal that I was so small…. My doctor was never concerned though, and I had a very healthy full term baby girl – 6 pounds 13 ounces.
Am now 18 weeks pregnant with my second baby (just found out today it’s a girl!!!)… So excited – but besides some close friends and family haven’t told people at work. Am thinking I probably won’t be able to get away with hiding it much longer. Your tummy looks similar to mine right now (I’m a few weeks behind you though).
Congratulations!! And have fun picking a name!!!
I agree about keeping the name to you and your husband. I am 29 weeks and I softly refuse to discuss names with people (even my close family and friends). All the names that I have on my list are quite unique – I have a unique name and I sort of like that. I told my sister in-law one name and she was like “Ohhh – that’s interesting”. After that experience, I decided to let it be a 100% decision between the father and I. Now when people ask, I just respond that we aren’t sure and have many names on the list (then most will jump in with their own opinions and I just smile and nod).
