Thanks to Paper Back Swap, I just read “Stardust” by Neil Gaiman. I have not seen the movie, but the movie trailer did make it seem like they changed quite a lot.
It was a fun, little read. Short – it really only took a couple hours to read all together. It’s a fairy tale geared more for adults. I really enjoyed the world he created, but I felt like it could have been a longer book if he hadn’t just glossed over all the details. The epilogue was lame, as they often are, and zoomed through decades to wrap things up in a was that made a sequel seem unlikely.
I’d recommend it as a quick weekend read. I was sad that it went so fast!
Do you have any book recommendations for me?
If you haven’t already got your hands on them, I would suggest the M.Y.T.H. series(around 10 books) of Robert Asprin.
A classic of the funny Fantasy literature. Filled with sorcerer apprentices, a realy grumpy demon, a playful dragon as “pet” and so on and so on. 🙂
Have you read “Eyes of the Dragon” by Stephen King? Has a similar fairy tale feel to it, I liked them both a lot. It has been years since I read them…
I read the book and saw the film… not too bad actually 🙂
If you like Neil Gaiman you should try “Neverwhere” – about a dark & hidden underground below London… very interesting!
“Good Omen” is another one of my favorites of his… he actually co-wrote this one with Terry Pratchett. It’s a feel-good comedy story about “what if” parody of “the omen” where the son of satan is born and accidentally switched at birth…
