I am still feeling bad – worse each day actually. The rash is spreading and I feel tired, tingly, shaky and dizzy. Since it keeps getting worse, I started to wonder if I developed an allergy to something I am still consuming/in contact with.
I am back at work today (since staying home did no good) and while my printer was busy printing out 80 handouts I did some searching online for my symptoms. I stumbled upon a blog talking about splenda/sucralose allergies. I don’t put sweeteners on anything so I was only skimming all the testimonies – until I realized I had eaten fat-free Dannon yogurt the last two days of our vacation (fat free was the only type they had with the continental breakfast at the hotel). I googled the ingredients and found a review of the yogurt that complained about it having sucralose in it.
Hmm… But then why would I still be getting worse? My normal yogurt doesn’t have splenda in it. What have I eaten/drank every day since getting back? Gaterade Propel fitness water. Sucralose!
So, I am thinking sucralose is a strong contender as the cause of my allergy. I poured myself a cup of tap water from the jug in the fridge to drink with my lunch and I am going to avoid the Propel I brought – and all other sucralose for a while to see if my rash clears up.
Hmm, that could be a reason…
… but usually allergic reactions dissappear when you avoid the contact with the allergene. It’s possible that the new allergy was the trigger for something else you are now allergic to. Like regular sugar. You could try to find you some non-raffinated sugar. It works for some people who have problems with regular sugar.
What is weird, is your dizziness, that isn’t matching to a regular allergic reaction. Are you sure you didn’t got the chicken-pocks. Getting a disease, or get vaccinated as kid didn’t mean you are immune against it for the rest of your lifetime. I got the whooping cough tree times.
If you are looking for non-sugar sweeteners, you should try to get Stevia. The substance is illegal to be used in food-products in the US and Europe, but not for health reasons(a release would mean the instant dead for the artificial sweeteners industry). You could still import it directly from South America, or try to find a biologic food store who imports it for you. It have a light liquorice aftertaste, but it is the sweetest known substance on the planet, and it is made from a plant.

As I said, I have had sucralose every day since the rash started – I didn’t know it was in my fitness drink.

It’s not chicken pox! I have seen a DR who was emphatic that it is an allergic reaction. the ONLY place the rash is dark is on my legs. Everywhere ese it is just bumpy. I have NO chicken pox symptoms.
It drives me crazy when I post about some sort of physical thing and everyone is certain I have the one most obvious thing (like if I say I am queasy and everyone insists I may be pregnant.) I guess I bring it on myself by posting in a public forum, though. Regardless. It is NOT chicken pox and it is highly unlikely that it is a virus. The DR was 90% sure it is an allergy.

I’m not. I prefer sugar. I plan to avoid sweeteners wherever possible now. I was indifferent about them before – just would choose the normal version of something whenever there was a choice between that and sugar-free.
Eeek! Don’t bite me! ^_^; …
… Err… let’s see if I bring the mulitple threads together…

Ah, I see. Well, in that case you found probably the culprit. ^_^

Well, I saw only the image with the rash on your legs… ^_^;
Plus you mentioned the dizziness(who is a bit unusual for an allergic skinreaction). I’m allergic to some things myself, even when it got alot better during the past years. But during my childhood the summertime was a hell for me.

Hey, don’t get mad. See it as a sign that the people are caring about you.

That is good. Well, I think artificial sweeteners are bad in general anyway. For the mixed messages they send to the body when you take them(Like sayed in a simplyfied way: Tastebuds to brain: “I have something sweet here” Brain to pancreas: “Hey make some insulin, we have sugar in the system” Body to brain: “Hey, I have no sugar here, only alot of insulin. I have more hunger now as before!” and so on… 😀 ). You should take them only if you are diabetic, if not, they make no sense at all.
I meantioned the stevia, because the substance is very different from other non-sugar-sweeteners and it grows natural in a plant. You could theoretical grow the pant in your own garden and use the leafs to sweet your tea.
Anyway, sugar is the best(except you have diabetis or a sugar-intolerance). 🙂
the only other thing i recall is once i used a new shampoo and got a rash along my hairline. so i eliminated that. it went away.
so perhaps it’s topical? like a new soap product- whether laundry related or shower related- new material in your clothing?
as a young girl i got rashes from this fiber crap that they put in maxipads. it sounds crazy but the “dryweave” stuff gave me a rash. it took me a few days to understand. and i simply can’t use that stuff.
eventually they put a similar product in bra linings. and same thing- rash where it touched my skin.
It definitely seems like something I am reacting to from the inside out, because the rash is appearing all over my body with no real order to it. Just part of an arm, the more of my back, then some thigh, then more arm, etc…
The artificial sweetener is the only thing I can think of that I’ve eaten differently lately. If cutting that out doesn’t work by the weekend, I am supposed to go back to the doctor anyway. I hope, at that point they’d send me to a specialist. I am on an HMO and have to go through referrals for that kind of thing.
Wow, that’s awful =(
my goodness you are a sensitive girl. 🙂
