stephanie is: ehn…
yesterday (saturday) i had the day off. my dad had so kindly ordered the new os X for our whole family and stopped by around 11am to drop off my box. i would have loved to lunch with him but he was busy.
in the afternoon i sewed a poodle skirt sans pattern for a party that evening. i think it came out cute,, but there weren’t many people at the gathering and most didn’t dress up. i was tired and mostly watched people drink and play darts. danny had brought his own swanky vodka or something. they made me join the second dart game, but everyone lost interest before it ended and i was wanting to go home.
when i got home, i showered and went through emails while my hair dried. danny was sick all night, poor thing. i got up at 6:30am after 4.5 hours of sleep (thanks to falling back an hour). i got to work at 8am.
it was my first sunday there. i am scheduled for next sunday as well. i liked it actually… there is no drop-in daycare.. only daycare for the boarding dogs. people can pick up and drop off between 11am-2pm. there was only 3 people working, but i think they hired someone new to join us next week.
before we opened we let all the dogs outside in groups. we fed them breakfast and i gave two baths – a rhodesian ridgeback named chloe, and a retired greyhound named bucannan.
i started out in the big playroom with the 15 big dogs we had boarding. three were bernese mountain dogs in various sizes from little to huge. they were pretty calm… mostly sleeping on the floor or playing quietly. the one time they got hyper i took them outside for a while. that always quiets them down. i actually read magazines in the big room for the first time. normally just pee/poo spotting duty alone is enough to keep you from even sitting down. i think because they were all boarding dogs they are on our routine and don’t need to potty so randomly.
normally at noon we have a 2-hour nap-time while we do chores and eat lunch, but not on sundays. instead we keep them up till 2pm when the night person arrives. i think i will bring dia next sunday since being separated from me during naptime is the hardest thing for her. there is no lunch break so you eat at the tall table when you take your lounge shift. so at noon i switched to the lounge where the small dogs were. my lunch was: wheat bagel with hummus black olive spread and radish sprouts; doritos; baby carrots; iced tea; a couple cookies. i had forgotten to grab my crochet when i was packing my backpack so i just piled onto the futon with the doggies. the tv only gets 2 channels well enough not to bug me (three sometimes but it is telemundo or something) so i watched the end of the tigger movie on wb and some ice skating stuff.
at two i took them outside, then got them crated and given lunch if requested. i swept and mopped the lounge, changed all the futon sheets in there, and washed all the dog bowls.
when i got home danny was still in bed, he came down and said he still felt sick and had a headache. i went out and got him lemon-lime soda and ginger ale. we had been thinking of going out to the italian place we ate at for our wedding rehearsal, but since that was off i just bought myself a salad from the salad bar. i had an extra section empty in my plastic salad box, so i grabbed some grilled chicken for our spoiled doggies. i chopped it up and put it in their dinner.
i need to go shower then wait and hour or two while my hair dries. then i will get in bed. danny is still up there so i don’t know if i’ll be able to watch any of the 10 billion hours of tivo that have built up for me. tomorrow i get up at 5:30 for work.
