ahhh! i got 28 braids done today, woo! i told myself to spend only 5 minutes per braid and was just barely able to do it. it can take up to 4 minutes just to take out each old one! i never did get done my december rebraiding so i have about 35 2-month-old braids – some of which got done today. i’d like to finish all 125 within 7 days. i can do it if i still to the 5-minute rule and keep going as long as possible. i only stopped today because my lifted arms began to remind me i hadn’t yet showered for the day. um, ew. but now i am clean, smelling like oranges, and i have 28 shiney new tight braids on one side of my head.
i have wanted to put up a page on braiding for some time… both as a tutorial of sorts and to offer my braiding services. would anyone like to be my guinea pig so i can have some photos to start with besides myself?
i don’t know what i would charge in the future, but I could do it for $100 for now (salon braids cost $200-$500, independent braiders generally charge $150 – $300) plus the cost of the hair. it would take one full day… if you know how to braid so i can pass them to you to finish the ends it goes faster. the hair i buy (100% kanekelon) is $4/bag (generally i buy 5-6 bags to last 2 full rebraidings) and comes in all natural and rainbow colors. i believe they sell black, brown, and auburn at beauty stores but i don’t know the price. i’d prefer the first couple clients be friends – at least from online, until i feel comfortable. i get a lot of strangers asking if i’d do their hair but i’m notto that comfort level yet.
