stephanie is: miserable from her allergies…
well the vet called and left a message while we were out walking. the tests came back and he does have a lot of kidney damage, but there is a chance that could heal up over the next day or two. so he stays there and they will test again later. he is comfortable there in a kennel and he is producing lots of urine now.
this post pretty much sums up our situation – even the same operation he would be faced with if it gets bad again.
thanks for the kind thoughts.
Had the same problem with my cat. He had blood in his urine and stopped using his litterbox(eewwwhhh, stinky house). He eats special food now and is a happy kitty. Please let me know if you need help with expenses. It breaks my heart to see any animal have to be put to sleep. And I am sure I am not the only one who would be willing to help. Keep us updated.
Kitties
What kind of food did the vet give him? That happen to my older cat.
Re: Kitties
He recommended one made by Science Diet specifically made to prevent the urinary blockages that male cats often have. It has a low ash content or something like that. I don’t remember… I have since switched to the Purina Urinary Tract Health formula. Seems to work as well as the Science Diet and at half the cost. I had the same problem with a female cat I used to have, which is rare, so now I just feed all my cats the special food. Pays off in the long run. They are healthy, happy and use their litter box and that is well worth the extra cost.
this is what i love about the power of the internet, and all the wealth of information you can find on basically any subject.
the “snip” doesn’t sound too much fun. of course this whole thing is in its inevitable stages because the cat is getting up there in his years.
don’t do the snip quite yet. get him drained out and change his diet. if it flares up against or he gets worse off, i’m afraid its curtains….
i’ll keep my fingers crossed for ya
aw poor kitty 🙁
awe hope all goes groovy and kitty will be home soon!
Same thing happened to our cat 4 years ago. He had the surgery (which is basically a sex change) and has been purrfect ever since. The surgery was pretty expensive and he had to be on special food for quite a while afterwards.
Good luck and I hope your kitty is okay….
pet insurance
you might want to try:
http://www.petinsurance.com
It probably doesn’t cover pre-existing conditions, but it might be a good thing for your other animals.
Re: pet insurance
yea… well at the moment we don’t even have human health insurance. so maybe in the future…
Re: pet insurance
I understand that problem all too well. I didn’t have health care for me for over two years, just got it again in Dec. (and of course made two trips to the hospital in that time for kidney stones)
I would get insurance for my pets before me. Vets offices won’t always allow payment plans, but a hospital has to take you and offer one, at least for emergencies ;o)
Just an FYI.. We (Petfinder) recently made a deal with a pet insurance company to offer two months of insurance to new pet adopters paid by us.
They are a good company, and are actually paying out claims without hassle. (there are some Bad pet insurance companies around)
The reason I am boring you with this info is that they do offer regular pet insurance for people that already have pets (and has nothing to do with us) at a very reasonable price, and I trust them enough to recommend them.
http://www.petcareinsurance.com/
Their QuickCare Gold plan is only $19.95 a month and covers Alot.
They also have a cheaper Indoor Cat plan at $9.95 that covers less.
Figured I pass it along for future use, cause untill we started dealing with them, I always assumed the cost would be way higher..
I’m signing up my Cat.
I’m so sorry, steph (and dan!)
I hope the kittykat pulls through…
