stephanie is: shibby…
we went grocery shopping today. fun stuff. gotta remember to drop some checks off at the bank tomorrow to pay for that. that would be good. i got hot oil treatment for my hair so i can take my braids out this week. don’t wanna! hehe. at least 4 ladies working at the store complimented me on them. i made excuses cause i think they look nappy now. they are all fluffy and growing out since its been just over 2 weeks and i have slippery fine hair. i am going to feel dumpy and naked without them but i only have to wait till mid-november to start redoing them. just long enough to give my hair a break and wash/condition it real well. only my scalp has been washed in two weeks. ew! hehe.
i had a wicked headache all last night that madce it hard to sleep. it is finally easing up. i was worried i’d have to amputate.

thanks for all the great bracelet color suggestions. i will see what beads i have and start making some.

I think $15 is very reasonable. I used to bead a lot and a lot of work and detail goes into it. I think you should charge shipping on top of the $15…the $15 should go into your pocket…beads are esssspensive!
your braids look awesome
but thats alot of work for 2 weeks of wear
we do it with a pinchbraid at the base
good for fine straight hair
can be worn 2-4 months

Re: your braids look awesome
well i could just redo the ones that are loose, but my head feels skanky and needs a break since i am not sued to it… if i had paid hundreds of dollars i wouldn’t take them out so soon, but i don’t have to pay myself to redo them…

hehe…a picture in the grocery store? i love it!
hehe it came out lame cause i didn’t take the time to check it… people were looking at me all nervous-like…
well i want to take my digi cam to cool places and take pictures of me with the background…but i don’t want people to think i’m lame or something…but what the hell…like i’ll see them again anyways 🙂
No offense but you are a terrible business woman.
If you want to make money off the braceletts then let people know that they are lucky to get some original work. If you tell people all the details of cost and labor and you ask people how much they want to buy the stuff for then OF COURSE people are going to try to under cut you, get the most for the least. No one is going to offer you more than YOU think you are worth. They are going to take your lead. If you are apologizing for something you shouldn’t apologize for then people aren’t going to take you seriously. You will have to stand up for your self if you want to people to think you are worthy. You think Kate Spade purses are really worth $1000 bucks? No, of course not. One could get the same stuff at Target! But she makes you think you are getting a bargin if you buy one of her creations for under $300! And believe me, there are millions of suckers out there who go for brand name crap.
Good luck. I want to see some of those bracellets selling for fifty + bucks in some fro fro shop in Friendship Heights.
I would have to agree with #1…a 300% markup seems kind of extreme.
If it costs $5 to make, then a 7.50 or 10 dollar price would be reasonable..if it costs $1 to make, then sell for 1.50 or $2
oh course, that doesn’t include shipping…
sorry… i wouldn’t sell them that low. i’m not a robot. these bracelets don’t just take parts – they take time.
anyone who would only pay $2 should go to claires and get some mass produced thing.
…i guess the girl above was right. i shouldn’t have asked. 🙁
i’m just saying that to target a larger audience…
you may have a few you’ve made that are good but didn’t quite turn out like you wanted them to, that you would let go for a couple of bucks, but while you have peeps cruising the bargain aisle you can display a few of the really good ones for the higher price.
kind of like, “this one goes for $, but for $$ you can get this one..”
i think wendy actually did that with her stained glass pieces, though i was shocked no one really snagged the beautiful angel piece..
I disagree. I don’t think there was anything wrong with asking. You are a very honest person who is not interested in price gouging or hyped misrepresentation. I don’t think you have a greed fueled need to take advantage of people. (People who will spend beaucoup bucks for something of “Target” quality are being taken advantage of and need to be educated, not exploited.)
Your “test marketing” on ebay looks like you have been getting up to $22.00 for a bracelet. At this time, that appears to be what the market will accept so your prices (~$15.00+) appear reasonable. I bought one for my daughter and I thought that $20.00 was very good for such a pretty piece. Skill, imagination and time are expensive and I think a lower price would indeed put you in robot-dom. Higher prices might alienate your target group. You may have found a balance.
I was going to ask about a custom made bracelet but I’ll wait until you figure out what you want to do! 🙂
hrmmm
I agree with this…
Time, Skill, imagination and a hand made product are worth more money. I think that people realize it and are willing to pay for it. $15-$20 is not unreasonable…
If someone doesn’t agree they can go to the mall and buy something mass produced, that is not one of a kind, not hand made, and of questionable quality!
! how long did ya take to do those braids?!
i’m not sure since i worked on them off and on for a week – and not every day of that week.
i am going to redo them with better parts this month and i will keep track of time…
I like your pretty braids! I wish someday my hair was enough long to try.
But yes, must give hair a rest sometimes.
Oh, about selling, I will tell that Ivan on his web page has sold 16 jewelry boxes for $10.00 each. They were listed at $15.00, but Ivan gave price break for buying all. No big deal.
Oh, Yes, Ivan only paid $1.50 each for them. 🙂
Shipping extra, of course!
