stephanie is: tired tired…

today we took the doogies to the w&od trail (washington & old dominion i believe) for a nice long walk. hikes with puppies are like going out with a baby. i had the mommy backpack with baggies for picking up poo, ziplock bags with snacks, water and a bowl, digital camera, and poloroid camera. they loved the walk but needed breaks to lay down and drink some water because it was hot out. they are both sound asleep still and we’ve been home for quite a while.

i have been working on member gallery updates. i’ll have two new special galleries, an updated september webcampics gallery, and updated i-zone gallery ready bedfore i go to bed. i think i need to go cook dinner now though.

here are a few more pictures. i took digital ones for a gallery till my batteries ran out, then i switched to mini poloroids only.

    • it is not a muzzle.

it is a gentle leader. doesn’t your pet store sell those?

the mixed breeds of dogs we have are very stong and stubbon ( china was beginning to out-power me so i could no longer walk her) so we use head collars while walking. a loop goes over their nose and the leash attached to it under thier chin. instead of them pulling at the leash attached bettween their shoulders with all their leg power, their head turns back towards the leash if they try to drag you off. it is completely humane.

here i was thinking people would write “oooh! cute pictures” but all i get is “you muzzle your dogs?!”

      🙁

      s.

      • i no nothing about leashes and supplies..i just do med and care work with the animals in the back..i dunno what we sell..

sorry, i just thought it was a muzzle..didn’t mean to make you mad. 🙁 she is a very cute puppie and i liked the pics..

        • i’m not mad. it just made me sad. i would never muzzle my dog. head collaar can be more humane than normal ones that put all the pressure against their throats. our strong dogs were gasping for air till we got these.

          • okay..sorry. i understand what it is now..i don’t have a big doggie because we live in a small place so we havn’t looked at big doggie leashes and stuff..

it does sound more humane..sorry i made you sad..

          • I didn’t know what it was either, Neko…never seen one of those… it doesnt look like a muzzle to me so I figured it was some funky kind of harness/leash thing.
I have used harnesses on my cats (haha THAT was a joke-they didn’t cooperate whatsoever)…and I have used the regular leads for dog training.

      • Thanks for the link! And yes, she’s cute!!!!

I took my dog to obedience class and he learned how to walk without pulling (Mulder is a 125 lb lab retriever…BIG dog!) However, since I hardly ever walk him, he’s forgotten all his leash training 🙁 Now I can take him to the park without having my arms yoinked off.

My friend’s chow mix was in the same class as me. Her dog wouldn’t walk without pulling no matter what the trainer tried. Stubborn puppy!

  1. Actually I saw the pics and thought “Cool! They use the neat head-lead kind of collar!” and I came in here to ask you if you like them, since we want to get one for Sparky the Monster Pulling Dog. So do you like them?

  2. once again she’s a cutie! and she is getting SO big! dogs are babies ..we bring the same stuff with when walking. it’s nice tho when you get home they are pooped! 🙂

  3. I would just like to say that I knew what it was! Besides, they are much more “gentle” as the name states than a choke collar, which made my cry so much that I refused to walk my puppy with it when she was little. Lovely pictures, by the way! I love India’s leash, very stylish!

  4. Hey, worry not. It seems very few people know about the gentle leader still. We have been using them on alot of the dogs at my local rescue for some time now. Weird going to Vets, boarding kennels, etc. and having people there still not know what they are, considering how great they work…

Did you get your “It’s not a muzzle” pin/button? When doing public events with the dogs (adoption days, etc.) we hang the pins on the leash about 12 inches up, so people see it right away. Don’t want potential adopters to avoid a dog cause they think he needs a muzzle.
You should wear your button on walks, they are so fashonable as well. ;o)

For those interested, the idea behind it is, if you can lead a 1000 pound horse with a halter, you can lead a 80 pound dog with it. (course, with dog, you don’t need the bit, etc) Don’t see many Horses with a choke/prong collar on do ya? Leaves the dog able to eat, drink, etc. Heck, they can even bite. Great product.

kudos on your choice, o very humane one ;o)
