stephanie is: sad sad…

my poor puppy…

i took her for her follow up on her ear hematomas (the skin bubbles away from the cartlidge in the ear and fills with blood/fluid). she hadn’t improved, so i had to leave her there for surgery. *sniff* she’ll be under anesthesia for about 5 minutes when they’ll make insisions in each ear and insert plastic tubes (teat cannula). those tubes will stay there, draining, for a couple weeks. the plastic under her skin will hopefully cause a reaction that will promote her skin to reattach to the cartildge. if it doesn’t work she’ll have an hour-long surgery with more suturing.

so tonight i’ll pick her up and she’ll be oozing and wearing one of those awful plastic cone collars. we have to keep her off the carpet for a few weeks which will be impossible. gah.

the estimate said $88 which isn’t bad.

  1. Gatsby had the same thing last year. We actually had to insert tubes twice before it worked. We didn’t leave them in long enough last time. He hasn’t had any trouble since though 😉

  2. :*(

    poor puppy!

you could decorate her collar with stickers and stuff…make it pretty.

    *sniffle*

i hope she doesn’t mind the tubes and elizabethan collar too much. 🙁

  3. Cute cone collard puppy!
I stayed with a friend last week who had one,
and it looked like a little walking radar,
romping along head going from side to side,
when ever I took him out for a walk.

  4. I don’t think about costs too much when it comes to my cats, because the cats are like extensions of myself.

A couple of years ago, Mooch developed an awful case of pneumonia. I took her to emergency care, she got x-rays and had to stay under an oxygen tent for a few hours, and of course had to stay at the vet for a few days of observation, with her at-home recovery period lasting about a week.

When it came to paying the bill, which was around $300, I just handed over the plastic and said “take what you need.”

I can never understand people who get all itchy when it comes to expenses from their pets. Makes me wonder how the handle the expenses of their kids.

I know you two are good owners, though.. 🙂

  5. My dog had the same thing except the bill would have been $200 so I had to leave it :o( After a month or so it went away and nothing was wrong with his ear… he still has both his big floppy ears :o)
Glad to hear India is doing ok :o) She’s a cutie.

    • I sounded like a bad mom saying I couldn’t spend $200 … but when you work at Wal*Mart like me … it means your poorpoorpoorpoor.

  6. yeah, thats actually a pretty good price… I have been ripped off before with my pets…

hope she is better soon.. she is lucky to have a great and caring Mommy 🙂
