the laptop lives!
i gave up and wiped the bitch clean. al my custom files (that aren’t on my desktop puter as well) fit on one zip disk. the puter booted so fast i was turned away and missed the fucking “happy mac”… i am so sick of that screen. heh.
i am going to go start some chocolate peanut butter bars then start rebuilding the laptop.

good, good! i was worried i was giving you bad advice after a post made to the macintosh community.. but if you’ve tried everything reasonable and you can back up your data easy enough, why not just do the format? just out of curiosity, did you have to do a low level/zero all data, or did a normal erase disk do the trick?
i reformatted it from disk setup then installed the os again…
