stephanie is: ehn.
i slept in because i had a pretty miserable night’s sleep. we got into bed after 1 or 2… i can’t remember. we watched “but i’m a cheerleader” (which i thought was great). danny went to sleep halfway through and i watched the rest on the captions. when it was over i tried to go to sleep. i was laying there in the silence thinking “i’ve got to get to sleep – it is so late”, then i’d remember i have no job to wake up for and my chest would feel crushed and my heart would feel sick. i cried off and on. but i made it to morning and i’ll make it through today.
i got an email from my creative director – she feels horrible about it all. she has to come pick up my office keys very soon, and i have to send her my timesheet info for the last couple days since i was already locked out of the system the moment they fired me. she said that accounting won’t take the 25 vacation hours i am indebted out of my last check. i hope so. maybe they only do that when you quit? cause they had told me my pay would be docked if i didn’t stay long enough to accrue all my honeymoon time back.
*sigh*
i have site work to do today. and my puter is being a bitch – it won’t start up with the zip drive installed. i need to do a clean install this week. i guess i should eat and email my old work.
I’m so sorry you’re blue, Steph… if I lived closer, I’d come take you to do girlie things…
*hugs*
steph is the best bester bestest!
You will rule the world and it is only a matter of time!
poor girlie, i feel so bad for you! hang in there!! it will all work out for the best!

Steph, most people have or will have gone through this same experience. I was laid off on Valentine’s Day a few years ago! File for unemployment as soon as you can and take each day one at a time.
You may find this whole thing to be very liberating – forcing you to re-evaluate things. Best of luck.
*gives you flowers*
So sorry to hear about you losing your job. I checked in last night (when LJ was down) and saw the note you posted on your work cam. I’m so sorry for you and feel your pain. I’m about to be in your shoes myself in a couple of weeks. Take care and keep busy. Everything will work itself out before you know it.
Oh, by the way, another good cheerleading movie (in my opinion) was Bring It On. A feel-good ending and lots of dark sarcastic humor from the get-go.
I’m sorry to read that you were part of a layoff. My company has been going out since August of last year and I’ve been told my job ends in the end of July. Fortunately I found a job teaching graphic design which I will start within the next couple weeks. Believe me, if I can do it, you can too. It was a real challenge for me to prove my talent to the school I am going to teach at, being that I have no work experience. Please take that as encouragement that if someone as inexperienced as I am can get a job in this career, you can too. I’m not in a good area for graphic design (richmond) but you are near lots of places. Try to network as best as you can.
Here is the part where I give you the legal advice:
A. Find out if they let more than 50 people go at your office. If they let more than 50 people go all at once, you are protected under the Federal Warn act which forces them to pay you at base salary for sixty days from your termination date.
B. Find out about severance. I don’t know whether the two weeks of vacation pay you are getting is what they are considering your severance, but it is a good thing to consider.
C. You might be able to collect unemployment benefits. You can find your state’s unemployment office’s number in the business section of you phone book. The minimum you can draw per week is $50 and the maximum is $268 for the state of Virginia (for DC it is $50/$309–I can’t remember if you are in virginia or in DC, sorry!). Depending on your situation, you can collect unemployment from 4 weeks or as many as 26 weeks. You will need to look for a job while you are collecting unemployment (that is one of the requirements) but other than that there aren’t many restrictions. Except that if you are pregnant the unemployment offices have a problem with that–they say in that condition you can’t look for a job and therefore can’t collect unemployment. It happened to a friend of mine so she went back the next day and talked to someone different and didn’t tell them she was pregnant. Der…
Anyways, that’s my list of advice. I also suggest that if you weren’t already covered on your husband’s health insurance that you do that within thirty days of your termination, otherwise his company might not allow you to enroll in his insurance without a qualifying event–and if you have allergies, claritin and all that stuff is very costly 🙁
If anything, maybe the above advice will help you think a little clearer. The most important thing, of course, is not to stress yourself out. You have a wonderful father, a wonderful husband, and many fans who care about you. There are lots of places that you can turn to for help. If you have any questions, let me know, I can try to help you from an HR perspective. Take care grrrlie 🙂
You may be nixers on the unemployment, since you moved recently…
She’s also right about the Warn bill. In some states, they are required to do certain things for you for a period of time (For example, carry your ins. for 60 days in NC)
good movie
Heh, I watched that movie last night too! It, uh “moved” me…hehe…especially when those two hotties were making out…heh.
That ending was dumb tho when she did that cheer to get her woman back…
