stephanie is: uck.
sorry that images aren’t showing up on my journal today. they really are there. geocities is not displaying them for some reason. hopefully this is not a perminant thing since i pay for their hosting so i will not bog down my dad’s server (where my domain is waiting). i have at least another month to go before my own server is live again. grr! everyone do the happy hosting shimmie so that this is just a problem they are trying to fix and not a perminant bandwidth-saving thing…
if geocities doesn’t work out
I have some space on my server(s) you could use.
*happy hosting shimmie*
Referer[sic] Header
Some free hosting providers use the referer[sic] header to determine whether people may download images are not. That way the hosting provider can restrict people from linking up images from anywhere except html on their servers. If they are serving the html as well they have the opportunity to throw in their own advertisements. I can’t imagine that geocities would be doing that for paid accounts as well as free accounts, but one never knows. Dot-coms are dying starting to scrounge for money and bandwidth does cost money, atleast for some people it does.
For a description of the Referer header (it’s mis-spelled in the rfc as well) please have a look at RFC 2068.
