ow. i have a bad headache and a sharp pain in my side from ovulating. does anyone ever get that? it only happens sometimes for me. the first time, i was 14 and didn’t know what it was. my dad called the doctor worried about my appendix but the doctor knew what it was without even seeing me. it should go away soon, but it seems as though it is beeing replaced with a headache.
my stress over the house is much less right now because it is not so new. i will prolly stress right before my morgage meeting monday. my website, however, is causing me to stress. it is really hard for me to try to deal with the fact i have to go partially pay. but $4800/year is a lot for me to have to pay when i have a shiny new morgage. dan and i have started working on everything. we will be super busy on it for a little while. a few more people wrote to me saying they expect to see me naked if they pay for my site. i don’t understand thier resoning there. is there any reason?
sharp pains
yes i do get them, but not as often as i once did…it used to scare me too, though, now it just annoys the hell out of me b/c it seems ridiculous – i mean, do we not go through enough pain 3-7 out of 28 days???
Blah, I guess their reasoning, even though it’s stupid is they feel like they can watch anyone sitting there and if they have to pay just to watch someone sitting there then they want more. It’s dumb. If they like you’re site and want to watch you for free they should support you and pay to watch you.
I dunno, it’s a rough one.
*good luck on the house*

Stephanie don’t feel bad.
I was stressed out and felt bad when I did the same thing. I made a members section with all the archives, journal archives, faster refresh then the guest site for some of the same reasons. I got some “bitch mail” over it but those same people that bitch want everything for free. Just have a faster refresh or something and those that wish to support you will and don’t worry about it. Even if it doesn’t cover your costs 100% it will help.
I got all nervous and stressed when I set up my pay section of my site. If you email me I will give you a guest pass to poke around in there and see what I have so you can compare it to ideas or what ever. 🙂
eek!
The ovulating cramps are the worst. They hurt like hell! One time I was walking one hit and I swear I almost fell to the ground and screamed! ouchie!
The reasoning I can think of is these people don’t come to see your site for the creativity of it. They only come to see you and your bod! Just do what you feel is right. -hugs-
Do I ovulate??
The reasoning is why there is a 2 Billion market out there. Expect more of it.
Stephanie you’ve gained a lot people watching your site without you having to get naked before.
That leads one to believe that you have something that people like and stick around to watch, without any nakedness on your site. If some of those same people feel it’s OK to suck up your bandwidth at your expense every month so they can enjoy whatever it is they like about you CLOTHED, but they won’t do the same for you (shell out a small fee in order to allow you afford to let them watch, then you don’t need those types of people in your life.
Take some of your stuff out of the free area. leave some teaser type journals, teaser graphics.
Maybe let guests see LESS cams, low refresh rate, bedtime cam for members only, higher refresh for members maybe.
Put the really cool stuff you do in the members area. Those of us who like you for what you are now (non-nekkid monkey), will pay if you switch over to membership!
i was going to suggest something similar to this. when i first started visiting stv live, i begain finding all the wonderful little things not clearly evident on one’s first visit to your site. every day i’d find a new thing like the oddities or the hall of shame and let me tell ya, i LOVE those! things like that – they’ve kept me coming back for more each time. that’s the kind of thing you spend good time on, not to mention the costs of running the site to host them, and are definitely worth charging for. just keep the basics and intimations to the good stuff on your free area, and these delightful more detailed bits of stephanie and STVlive for members. when i get money i want to support you, cuz, i just can’t stop coming back for more. AND —!!! you can put all the stupid bitchy emails about “oh no stephanie’s going pay” and “damn, i want to see some ass if i have to pay” into the new member’s only hall of shame where those cheapskates won’t see it, hehehee
Ovulation / Pay To Play
Stephamie,
Yeah, I still sometimes get a pain in the side when I ovulate. In german they even have a word for it (my grama taught me) “middleschmertz”. (I have no idea if that’s the way it’s spelled, but that’s how it sounds.) The good news is that it does seem to lessen as you get older.
As far as feeling pressured or concerned re: people wanting to see you nekked, fuggetaboutit! Your site is a reflection of you, and you are unique and interesting just as you are. If nekkidity is so important to people there are TONS of other sites they can go to satisfy those urges.
Those that want to support you will, those that want more will continue wanting more no matter what you do. The most important thing is to maintain your own integrity and continue being the monkee you are.

perhaps most people only want to pay to see things that they think they shouldn’t see.
i agree that you should keep your site as a portfolio, but i don’t think humanity has evolved enough yet to pay to see exceptional people.
perhaps you should move some of your files to another server? one that could host them cheaply without banners? you can get about 40MB on Tripod ad-free for about $36 a year i think. and since your art is nude-free, you shouldn’t have any problems putting some of the older stuff on slower outside servers.
but, hell, if people want to pay $100 a month to see you naked, pick your nose, moon them, and make out like a bandit. most “adult” cam girls are hardly ever on cam anyhoo.

Maybe that’s the type of company you keep, but
there are many who would pay for Stephanie’s site without nudity. Some of us came to Steph’s site because she does not have nudity. It’s probably mostly guys who are doing the complaining about not wanting to pay unless there is nudity anyway.

Tripod, Geocities, etc. can’t handle something as important as a high traffic webcam & webpage on a competent level. Having a server at home means you can monitor itself and try to make sure everything is in tip top shape without relying on half clueless tech support people.

You’re right of course. That’s why I was suggesting to only move some of the files, perhaps older ones. It was just an idea I had to help keep Steph’s bandwidth down. I think that Tripod and Geocities are perfectly adept at storing about 40 MB of jpegs. Of course, I could easily be wrong.

I don’t really see what the company I keep has to do with anything. I was just making an observation based on what I’ve seen (read) makes a commercially successful website. I’m no expert.

I’m sure it is. I can’t imagine anyone else complaining about that sort of thing.
Once again, I apologize if you think I’m an idiot.
Re: wrestling naked hemingway
topchoice
I know of the guy who runs this hosting company.. he’s got lots of bandwidth and you can even colocate your server I thinks.
freaks.
do you really want to have this kind of person viewing your site anyway? bastards!
Re: freaks.
very true… i can due without the goobiez…
Getting naked
Some people are just jerks, They do not respect others fielings.I would not do any thing you do not believe in.

No nekkid pics!
I’m glad you decided against getting nekkid for money. I’ve seen some of your more revealing pics, and I know that a lot of guys agree that suggestive clothing is more sexy than getting totally nekkid anyway.

payin’ (not pain)
Can’t say I have the same pain, not being female, but my girlfriend says it happens to her sometimes.
I guess I already said how I feel about the membership issue, but in the interest of being persistently supportive, I’ll say it again. It’s unfortunate that there are people out there who think that the only site “worth paying for” is a nudity site. There are probably a number of things you could blame for that — not the least of which would be the fact that many “paysites” do feature some sort of nudity, and in fact use that as the “draw” in order to get subscribers. Whatever sociological conclusions or theories one might draw from that phenomenon, I’m glad you’re not a part of it.
Don’t let the pressure make you feel insecure about deciding to take this route. So they want to see nudity if they’re going to pay. So? They don’t pay now. They also don’t see nudity now. They won’t see nudity later, and they won’t pay later. Anything different? So you cordon off a few areas of the site from them. If what they’re after is nudity, they probably won’t care if they can’t see the member site.
There is one down side still, though, and that is that making a member area may make you feel like you have “commercialized” yourself. This may be more or less substantial depending on what you decide to make member-access. To get new subscribers, you’ll need to find a way to “sell” the member site, and that may not feel at all like what you wanted to do with your cams and site. I don’t have a suggestion at the moment for what to do about that. It may not come up — you may not have to market the member site, or you may decide it’s not worth doing that. It depends on how you feel about that sort of thing. Many sites are designed so that the “guest site” is there to market a full-fledged member site, and the entire guest experience is designed to remind you that you’re not getting all there is. You might choose to make less of a distinction between what’s available in each area, so that most of the content, most of what you’re seeking to express through your site (including all the portfolio material you want to show off) is available to everyone, and a few special things are available in the member area for people who care. (In this case, it might take several months for a person to explore the site and interested enough in sharing a bit of your life to pay fot the member site. But that might be more what you want, depending upon how you relate to your work. That’s a personal decision for you.)
Anyway, don’t stress about the people who won’t pay unless they get to see more of you’re skin. They don’t pay now, and you’re not after their attention, so…
I suspect that I’m getting way too rambly for a livejournal comment.
Thoughts?
